Should we rent a car?
If you’re planning to stay outside of Meads Bay or want to explore other parts of the island, whether for restaurants or excursions, we highly recommend renting a car.
Taxis in Anguilla can be quite expensive, so a rental is often the more cost-effective option. Junie’s and Bryan’s are two trusted local car rental companies.
Just a heads-up: Anguilla drives on the left side of the road, but don’t worry! The roads are generally quiet, and there are only about three traffic lights on the whole island.
Where should we fly into?
✈️ 1: Fly directly into Anguilla (AXA)
Anguilla’s airport is Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA). This is the most direct route but may require connecting flights through major hubs like Miami, St. Maarten, or San Juan.
🛥️ Option 2: Fly into St. Maarten (SXM) + Ferry to Anguilla
Most guests choose to fly into Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) in St. Maarten, then take a 30-minute boat ride to Anguilla.
You can book your transfer through Calypso Charters or Funtime Charters, both of which offer:
• Comfortable, air-conditioned boats
• Complimentary drinks (we highly recommend starting with a rum punch!)
• Stunning views of the Caribbean Sea
The ferry terminal is just a 2-minute drive from the airport, and the transfer companies can help coordinate ground transportation for you if needed.
We highly recommend this option—it’s scenic, relaxing, and a fun way to kick off your trip!
What beaches do you recommend?
🏖 Beaches to Explore in Anguilla
While the wedding reception will be held on Meads Bay, we encourage you to explore some of the island’s other stunning beaches, including:
• Rendezvous Bay – calm waters and breathtaking views of St. Maarten
• Shoal Bay – one of the most famous beaches in the Caribbean, perfect for photos and snorkeling
• Sandy Ground – great for nightlife, beach bars, and live music
☀️ Beach Day Tips
• Beach chairs & umbrellas are typically available at restaurants or beach bars. You can use them for free as long as you’re ordering food or drinks.
• Bring your own beach towels, though most Airbnbs and resorts provide them.
• If you’d rather not pack bulky beach gear, stop by Best Buy, the local grocery and convenience store. They sell:
• Towels
• Floats
• Extra sunscreen
• Other beach essentials
🪙 Note: Prices at Best Buy and other local shops are listed in Eastern Caribbean Dollars (XCD). Don’t worry, the numbers may look high, but the actual cost is lower when converted (approx. 1 USD = 2.70 XCD).

How to get to Ferry from Airport?
Upon arrival, follow the crowd to immigration and look for the transfers line if it’s available. Let the staff know you’re traveling to Anguilla. After collecting your bags, head outside and wait for the shuttle.
If you’re taking the ferry, it departs from the terminal just across the street from the airport. Round-trip tickets cost $150 per person, so be sure to book your reservation in advance. Don’t forget to bring some cash for tipping the crew!
Are there any fees leaving the island?
Yes, whether you are departing by land or sea, you will need to pay a departure tax of 28-35/person.
Do restaurants take US or CAD dollars, or major credit cards? Tipping?
Anguilla takes USD at all resorts, restaurants and excusion companies. Tipping in cash is high recommended. Keep in mind that restaurants add an automatic 13% gratuity so additional tipping is not entirely necessary.
